Our Mission & Goals:
Advocates for Children is a community-based,
private non-profit prevention organization
serving Androscoggin County.
Anchored firmly in the community since 1978,
AFC operates three programs providing support
and education services to children and families.

Our programs include:
•The
Parent Resource Center:
The Parent Resource Center, located at 57 Birch St.,
Lewiston, offers a wide range
of parent education and support services. Workshops, classes, parent-child
activities,
and support groups are supplemented with drop-in hours, telephone
information
and referral to community services. The PRC also has a lending library,
offering a wide
range of books and videos for parents and professionals to borrow. The PRC
also
provides parents with Internet access via a computer donated by the
University of Maine Cooperative Extension Program.
•Healthy
Families Androscoggin:
Healthy Families is a home visiting program for new
families. HFA emphasizes
prevention and early intervention to ensure children get off to a healthy
start in life.
First-time parents are visited by a certified parent educator in their home
on a regular
basis, and receive support, child development information, and access to
community
resources for parents.
 •School
Education
Programs:
The AFC school education program gives children in
Androscoggin schools the information
and skills they need to keep themselves safe, problem solve peacefully, and
deal with bullying behaviors. Professional in-service education and
parent education compliment the children’s programming with content focused
on mandated reporting, response systems, and
prevention strategies.
