What is the Kids First Program all about?
Kids First will help you learn how separation and divorce affects the entire family. The content of this course includes:
- Children’s needs as family roles change.
- The effects of separation/divorce on children and their reactions to it.
- Talking to children about divorce and other changes.
- Making decisions about parenting arrangements.
- Dealing with conflicts without involving children.
- Helping children adjust to the differences between households.
Who is this program for?
Kids FirstSM is a four-hour educational program that targets parents who are in the process of separation or divorcing, and wish to lessen the negative impact experienced by their children.
Why is this important?
More than one million children are affected by separation and/or divorce alone each year, with nearly 8,000 divorces filed in Maine every year. In many situations children are caught in the middle of angry parents, leaving children with permanent scars.
When is it offered?
Parents are encouraged to attend the program as early as possible in the separation or divorce process. It is held one Saturday per month.

How much does it cost?
